Oh Crap!

PowerBook with dent on top

PowerBook with a cracked screen

On Tuesday a maintenance guy was changing a light bulb above my desk at work. He climbed high up on a ladder (we have high ceilings in my office). He then accidentally dropped the heavy metal light cover directly on top of my lovely PowerBook! As you can see from the pictures, the top of the computer is dented and the screen is completely cracked and unusable. :(

I'll be talking with the Risk Management people at work to get this resolved; I'll have more details as things evolve.

My PowerBook looks much worse in person than it does in these pictures; the dent is deeper than it appears and the screen looks even funkier. Of course, it's impossible to read very much on the damaged screen. (click on the pictures to see a larger version)

Update: Risk Management will be paying for the repairs. Woohoo! I dropped off the computer at the Apple Store; it's being shipped to Apple's repair center and hopefully it won't take too long to get fixed.

4th of July Fireworks (my sucky photos; Jeff Keller's great photos)

On the 4th I went to check out the fireworks in Glenview, IL; they put on a pretty good show. I've heard that the Deerfield and Evanston fireworks were good, too--perhaps I'll check them out next year.

Anyhoo, I attempted taking pictures of the fireworks display. I've taken some good family photos and kind of sucky fireworks photos; I discovered that with no tripod and having a camera without manual controls makes for some pretty bad pictures.

If you'd like to see some excellent fireworks pictures, check out my friend Jeff Keller's pictures from this year. He's an excellent photographer, and runs his own digital camera review web site.
